Teen Volunteer Guidelines

Volunteers are an important part of the Library and can help out in many ways.
Please review the guidelines below for teens ages 12–18 and see our current Volunteer Opportunities before signing up online.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the York County Library!

Code of Conduct:

  • All teen volunteers must follow the Library’s Patron Behavior Policy.

  • Teen volunteers are expected to arrive on time for volunteering. If you are unable to attend your shift or will arrive late, please let a Young Adult Department staff member know as soon as you can.

  • The York County Library cannot guarantee volunteer hours.

  • Teen volunteers should not be using their phones/devices for texting, calling, playing games, listening to music, etc. while volunteering.

  • Teen volunteers are responsible for recording their volunteer hours. The Library will do its best to keep track.

  • Teen volunteers have the right to stop their task or to let staff know if they’re uncomfortable with their given task. Library staff will try to find a more suitable one if possible.

  • Failure to adhere to the guidelines may result in dismissal from the Library’s Teen Volunteer Program.

As a YCL Teen Volunteer, you agree to:

  • Follow the rules of the Library and treat others with respect.

  • Be receptive to instructions provided by the Library.

  • Wear a nametag at all times.

  • Communicate questions if you don’t understand. There are no wrong questions!

  • Let us know in advance if you are unable to volunteer on your scheduled day.

  • Limit cell phone use to emergencies.
